Paths to happiness: sea, land art, hiking, flora and fauna (1)
Sat, 19 Nov
|Bolonia
During this week, the focus is on the design of LandArt. Every day we hike to places with a special theme, either by the sea or in the neighboring forest, where we create land art with preparation and site and material related topics...listening always to the sound of the sea.

Über die Veranstaltung
The idea of this special week is that we spend a lot of time in nature to get involved with it, to feel it through the LandArt, to be creative and present. The theoretical part of LandArt, equally suitable for beginners and advanced learners, also takes place in nature.
The beach of Bolonia, which incidentally received the award "most beautiful bay in Spain", as well as the backland with its extensive and natural forests are ideally suited for this.
This stretch of coast of the "Costa de la Luz" is hardly populated and, in addition to its intact coastal vegetation, is characterized by two large shifting dunes. Sandy beaches alternate with rock formations. Inspirational material such as stones formed by the sea, rocks with holes, alluvial pieces of wood and bizarre parts of plants can be found.
We will hike to places with specific topics, where we will then aproach them through selected exercises, later then create our own works.
The hikes are a maximum of 2,5 hours a day.
This time the focus is on the element of water and the proximity to the African continent. Explanations of flora and fauna enrich and deepen what you see every day.
A visit to the NMAC sculpture park with the site-specific project "testigos" (witnesses) by artists of international standing is another highlight of the trip. The slow-art tour that we experience there also prepares us for the last day of the trip, when we design LandArt with a view of Africa on an ideal beach for finds.
PROGRAM:
DAY 1: Individual arrival at our apartments directly at the beach of Bolonia (municipality of Tarifa). Welcome drink and dinner together.
DAY 2: Today we get to know our atelier, the beach landscape, while hiking and receive an introduction to the special marine fauna. With perception exercises in pairs, we explore natural materials. First LandArt work. Total walking time 1:45 hours.
DAY 3: Design in the wild backland of Bolonia: circular hike, total walking time 2 hours with two short sections uphill. After site-specific introductory exercises, we design our own work of art with the materials that this special environment offers us. This is accompanied by advice and possibly technical tricks. The development of our works is also always recorded photographically so that everyone has a lasting memory of the ephemeral works of art.
DAY 4: Free day: the opportunity to explore the unique Roman ruined city "Baelo Claudia", which is located in Bolonia, to stroll through the interesting old town of Tarifa, to take a hike in the nearby pine woods or just to dangle your feet and enjoy the pure water and the beach.
DAY 5: A hike to a untouched and secluded bay. Today we have again a sit-specific LandArt theme. At the joint vernissage we are commenting our works. The circular hike takes 2 hours, a gentle descent and an ascent are to be expected.
DAY 6: Visit to the NMAC sculpture park near Vejer, which is located in a pine forest with a high biodiversity. The permanent exhibition shows works by internationally known, contemporary artists whose works relate to the border area between Africa and Europe. As part of a slow-art tour, we take a closer look at their site-specific art. Afterwards Vejer invites you to explore the Moorish traces together.
DAY 7: After yesterday's preparation and some creative "pushes", we are working on a beach with lots of found objects and a "view of Africa". The one way hike forth and back takes about two and a half hours. Last Dinner together.
DAY 8: We enjoy the last breakfast at our beach apartments and then set off on our individual departure.
ACCOMODATION:
We live in the beautyful Bay of Bolonia in apartments directly at the beach. Two people share an apartment with two rooms. Bathroom as well as kitchen-living room is shared between them.
It´s also possible to book an apartment with just one room and a doble bed.
The apartments are equipt with bed sheets, towels, hairdryer, electric heaters and the windows have doble glazing for windy days.
GETTING THERE:
The closest airports are Jerez de la Frontera with 1.15 hours, Málaga with 2.15 hours and Seville with 2.30 hours. Malaga has the largest flight offer, but depending on the place of departure, the other, smaller airports may be more suitable. It is easiest to reserve a rental car, as public transport is very limited.
